Three-dimensional finite element modeling of anisotropic materials using X-ray computed micro-tomography data

چکیده

A complete software package is developed for finite element modeling of anisotropic materials with orientation information estimated from X-ray μCT scans. The method demonstrated a carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy pultruded profile where fiber orientations are using structure tensor analysis. model automatically generated the same dimensions as volume and stored at integration points mesh. static tensile simulation executed in AbaqusTM, results exported to Python program post-processing analysis mechanical response.

X-ray micro-computed tomography

Micro-computed tomography (μCT) has been successfully used to study the cardiovascular system of mouse embryos in situ. With the use of barium as a suitablecontrast agent, blood vessels have beenimaged and analysed quantitatively such asblood volume and vessel sizes on embryosof ages 14.5 to 16.5 days old. The advantageof using this imaging modality is that it hasprovide...

Three-dimensional visualisation of soft biological structures by X-ray computed micro-tomography.

Whereas the two-dimensional (2D) visualisation of biological samples is routine, three-dimensional (3D) imaging remains a time-consuming and relatively specialised pursuit. Current commonly adopted techniques for characterising the 3D structure of non-calcified tissues and biomaterials include optical and electron microscopy of serial sections and sectioned block faces, and the visualisation of...

Quantification of eggshell microstructure using X-ray micro computed tomography

1. X-ray microcomputed tomography can be used to produce rapid, fully analysable, three-dimensional images of biological and other materials without the need for complex or tedious sample preparation and sectioning. We describe the use of this technique to visualise and analyse the microstructure of fragments of shell taken from three regions of chicken eggs (sharp pole, blunt pole and equatori...

Three-dimensional analysis of the pulp cavity on surface models of molar teeth, using X-ray micro-computed tomography.

AIM The purpose of this study was to investigate the scanning and segmentation precision of surface models of molars for the detection of small volumes, such as the reduced pulp cavity; formation of mineral deposits; detection of narrow root canals and to improve the clinical and morphological understanding of the number of root canals and their configuration. METHODS Eighteen human molars we...

Material Characterization and Geometric Segmentation of a Composite Structure Using Microfocus X-Ray Computed Tomography Image- Based Finite Element Modeling

This study utilizes microfocus x-ray computed tomography (CT) slice sets to model and characterize the damage locations and sizes in thermal protection system materials that underwent impact testing. ScanIP/FE software is used to visualize and process the slice sets, followed by mesh generation on the segmented volumetric rendering. Then, the local stress fields around several of the damaged re...
